Show results for August and September 2007 Colliery Alick wins his Fourth Grand Champion M&M Pony title and Ridden Reserve Champion at the Welsh American Nationals!
Alick, with his handler and rider Roger Cleverly, made quite an impression at the Welsh American Nationals in Elk Grove, CA. On Friday, September 7, Alick was honored with his third "M&M Pony Grand Champion" title this season -- his fourth in two years. He was a favorite with the spectators, and UK judge Jane Etheridge said of him, "Smashing -- a truly outstanding Dales Pony!"
Alick then picked up the blue ribbon in the Ridden M&M Pony class, with our beautiful Dales Pony mare Bickerdike by Design ("Dessie") ridden by Adrienne Grasso earning a second place. There was certainly daunting competition as Alick and Roger entered the Ridden Championship class, going up against the 2 best Ridden Welsh Ponies (sections A and B) and the 2 best Ridden Welsh Cobs (sections C and D) of the day. Alick didn't disappoint his many fans, however, and was named Ridden Reserve Champion. It was a brilliant end to the day and the 2007 Mountain and Moorland show season!
Colliery Alick, and Bickerdike by Design (Dessie), Show their Stuff at the West Coast Connemara Show! Alick and Dessie made their debut at the first M&M Pony classes at the West Coast Connemara show August 24th-26th. This show received entries for 19 M&M ponies (Connemaras were ineligible to compete in the M&M classes), with 16 ponies actually competing in two in-hand classes -- 2 and under in hand, and 3 and over in hand.
This show was especially significant as it was judged by the Chairperson of the UK's National Pony Society, Linda Impey. Alick and Dessie admirably represented the Dales Pony breed in the 3 and over class along with 2 Welsh Ponies, 3 Welsh Cobs, 4 Fell Ponies, and 2 Highland Ponies. Ms. Impey decided to split the class into Welsh (5) and non-Welsh (8). Alick won the non-Welsh division, with Dessie (handled by her owner, Kelly Davidson) getting an impressive third place, beating a very nice Fell Pony stallion! Alick then went into the ring with the winners from the Welsh 3 and over division and the M&M pony 2 and under class to win his third Supreme Grand Champion M&M Pony title in two years. He finished the day by being named Reserve Best in Show after the Connemara Stallion “Wildwych Eclipse” took the top honors!

Fourth Annual “Pleasure Days” Carriage Driving competition in San Miguel, CA
Colliery Alick
wins Reserve Grand Champion Pony at ADS Pleasure
"Colliery Alick" Once again the weather was tough but the Dales Ponies showed us just what they are made of at the Fourth Annual “Pleasure Days” Carriage Driving competition in San Miguel, CA. Muffy Seaton from South Carolina and Geraldine Pearson from Oregon judged the two day show. With only 34 days under harness Dessie is following in Alick’s footsteps as a top Dales Pony Ambassador. The 5 year old mare earned a second place in the “Working Pony-Novice Driver” and “Cross Country Obstacles-Novice Driver” classes and a fourth place in Town and Country Obstacles-Novice Driver class. Spectators, competitors, and judges alike were amazed at the beautiful pony who took the high winds, other competitors, and new surroundings in stride! Alick won his first class “Turnout – Open Pony” and brought home 2 seconds, two thirds, and a fourth! Colliery Alick wins a Third Place at the Ram Tap CDE in Fresno, CA! Alick and his trainer, Roger Cleverly, competed in their first CDE at Ram Tap April 20 -22, 2007. Alick competed at Training level in the single pony division. He was up against 8 other competitors and wowed us all by bringing home a third place ribbon! Even with high winds and rain, Roger and Alick went clean through the marathon on Saturday and the cones course on Sunday finishing with their dressage score. In a sport where first time competitors often find themselves eliminated from competition, Alick proved once again how truly versatile and dependable the Dales Pony is in the show ring! Below are the results through 6th place for the division: Training Level – Single Pony First •Hale Allen “Touch of Honey” Morgan Cross Second •Jennifer Grimes “Lady Gwendolyn” Welsh Cob cross Third •Roger Cleverly “Colliery Alick” Dales Pony Fourth • Nancy Draper “Jubi’s Diamond Lil” Arabian Fifth •Leslie Smith “Pippin” Welsh Pony Sixth • Jesse Deux “Dreama Little Dream” Connemara
